D Minor

Tonight the Shop is going to see Dan Auerbach, who is newly on tour, at the Bowery Ballroom and we're pretty pumped. We've been feeling the bluesy rock that is Mr. Auerbach and live he supposedly kills it. So, tomorrow we'll let you know how it was in our beer hazed stuper.

Sorry, we've been away for way too long. Have lots to catch you up on, but for now, if you live LA - get on it.

V for ... ?

Happy Valentines Day to all the lovers and non lovers alike out there. We're spending this week in sometimes sunny LA and happy to be back in Cali for the women and the sticky green. So far the ladies of the Shop have scored on legit leather jackets from Diesel and the men...we'll they were taken down by a few too many tequila shots. So posting may be few and far between this week, but once back to the Loisaida, watch out !

Best Dancer Ever

The Shop went to Le Poisson Rouge last night to see NASA spin. The best part about it was the three females they had on stage "dancing". They were smeared in green paint and had silver metallic spandex on... please watch the girl in the middle - best dancer ever !

Yarn Sculptures

This weekend we stopped by one of our favorite galleries, David Zwerner, in Chelsea. They had a rad show going on from 70's artist Fred Sandback, who does large scale yarn sculpture instillations. Although the artists has passed, someone from his estate travels around the world to install the perceivably LSD inspired pieces.

Upon first glance they seem a bit mundane, but stick around a for a few, they are actually quite beautiful.

Mini Milk

Miniature things seem so much cooler than their larger counter parts...

B.R.U.N.C.H

The Shop ate way too well this weekend and it came in the form of a bad ass brunch spot, in Soho, called Public. Nice clean industrial design with an innovative brunch menu and a Michelain Star to boot, we walked away satiated and ready to brave the cold.
Highlights came in the form a venison burger with kasava fries, homemade scones and jams and locally raised poached eggs with roasted vegetables. Get some...

LOVE

While riding the train into work today, I sat across from this young couple. Their eyes hardly shifted from each other's gaze and there was a frenetic buzz of comradery on the train, that seem to culminate in this young couple.

Perhaps it is the strength of that young love that can move mountains or one man humbled by the task before him, supported by the strength of the woman in his sights. Today is special, today is a day to celebrate your love, whatever that may be.

We're going going back back to Cali

To support our true love of The Shop, this beautiful tower is where we spend our days in NYC. I heard someone compare the design of the Hearst Tower to that of an argyle sock - which seems quite fitting. However, this new jobby job is sending us to Cali, LA to be exact, for 2 weeks. Can't wait to get me some fun in the sun ! Maybe we'll see the newly svelte Baron Davis doing something annoying and stupid...sell out.

Coast to Coast

Just wanted to let you know why the hell we've been gone for so long. A main contingent of The Cabinet Shop is moving to NY, Lower East Side to be exact. We will be there by the 1st of September, so check back for a new point of view, but never forgetting where we came from.

Much Love,
The Shop

Surfing in Israel

A tiger of The Cabinet Shop has just finished a documentary film about life in Israel and Gaza, from a group of surfers perspective. Looks like a really interesting and moving film that comes from a very unique point of view. A poignant part of the trailer reveals a young kid speaking about getting shot if they ride past a certain part in the water. Above are some stills from shooting the doc. Check it out: God Went Surfing With the Devil

Two Steppin'

Here's a shot from the Chromeo show at the Fillmore last night. Loved the custom neon sign (we're thinking The Shop would look extra spicy with that out front) and those legs! Dave was almost too hip for our liking, but hey we're not haters and P was a lovable pimp/rapper - we thought you knew that! They played Needy Girl ( a thank you), they hyped up the crowd, simple production with a big sound. Loved it!

It Was Written

It has always been a dream for a few Cabinet members to start our own magazine. However, along the way we got a bit jaded by the real world of big dollar publishings and turned our sights elsewhere; but the dream has not been lost all together. So we will be stopping by one of the two FREE days, of the SF Zine Fest dedicated to independent and underground publishing. Check it...

Take Two Of These and Walk It Out

David Sedaris is reading at Books Inc, this eve. The Cabinet Shop has his performance at Carnegie Hall and its hilarious....if you're into books and stuff...NERD ALERT!

Great effing show tonight also: Dialated Peoples, The Alchemist, Aceyalone & 88-Keys. Mezzanine is a good sized venue usually filled with people who aren't afraid to get the party started. For some eats before hand try Tulan, a super good Vietnamese place that is real easy on the wallet.

Fresh To Death

A Cabinet member had a birthday yesterday - Happy Birthday Jeremy ! - and to celebrate we are going to check out this uber fly flick next week. The Wackness, has the makings for everything we love: cassette players, Method Man, Curt Cobain references and summer time lovin'.

The Blackout 2.0

A Cabinet family member became very ill this weekend, so we apologize for being away. However, the blackout has brought about a frenzy of new finds. We are also excited to announce we have a very special guest that will be contributing a weekly column on the illest sneaker finds around. Here in Northern Cali he is heralded as coming up on goods first and foremost...but we'll let him introduce himself soon enough.

If You're Not Going To Be Watching The Game...

...then you might want to check out Movie Night at Dolores Park. Tonight, It Came From Outer Space, is playing at 8:30 p.m with The High Decibels (sounds like Too Short over some blues guitar) performing at 7:15 p.m.
